Maps of New Road Projects

This page exists to provide maps of the locations of the highway extensions and new roads currently under construction (or recently completed) in the Louisville area.

Existing base maps were taken from MapQuest. Additions to show new alignments in ugly orange-like color were done by me, based on aerial photos taken April 2003 by Kentuckiana Aerial Photography, Inc.

Crittenden Drive (now open)

Before the airport expansion project, Crittenden Drive went all the way south from the Watterson Expressway around Standiford Field to Fern Valley Road, providing access to the Ford assembly plant, the UPS hub, and numerous industrial businesses. The section between Highland Park and Fern Valley was closed in 1997 for airport expansion; local officials only decided that a replacement road was necessary when UPS announced it would expand the international hub at Standiford Field. After many rain delays, Crittenden Drive was once again fully open in August 2003.

Jefferson Boulevard (now open)

Jefferson Boulevard is a short road off Outer Loop that connects with McCawley Road up north, providing access to Jefferson Mall and numerous stores and restaurants in the area. This project extends Jefferson Boulevard to connect with Fern Valley Road and Poplar Level Road, to improve access to the numerous businesses on Outer Loop and hopefully relieve traffic on Outer Loop.

Hurstbourne Parkway (now open)

An extension of Hurstbourne Parkway from Bardstown Road to the intersection of Fegenbush Lane and Poplar Level. The T-intersection of Fern Valley and Poplar Level has also been realigned to provide a straight connection to recently-widened Fern Valley Road. Used to be, Fern Valley Road eastbound coming from Shepherdsville Road came to a stop at Poplar Level; now, Poplar Level eastbound comes to a stop at Fern Valley; to go east you must turn left.

Veterans Parkway (now open)

The Veterans Parkway is a new east-west connector road between Jeffersonville and Clarksville, providing access to Clarksville Town Hall and I-65.
