Darren's Cubicle Roof

Need storage space for your cubicle? Think vertical! All you need is a couple of those cubicle divider walls, a couple shipping tubes, and some duct tape, and you have a cubicle roof!

This was my office at The Auto Channel when that was my primary job. The room was intended to be a conference room, and was probably used as such by the previous tenants of this floor. The room had a skylight so the sun was bothering me every once in a while. These photos were taken on 1 September 2000.

We didn't really have cubicles at the office but we did have some divider walls lying around. I don't really know why.

The pole that one of the corners of the roof is resting on is basically two postal tubes taped together with mailing tape. It was used to ship to me an old hanging wall map of Cleveland, Ohio (part of my map collection) that was approximately five feet wide. I had to saw off a few inches to get the proper height. Duct tape held the pole to the desk. Overall the arrangement held up, but could easily be wobbled incase someone wanted to startle me. In retrospect, an earthquake might have proven dangerous.

I only had this arrangement for a few months as the relative brightness of the computer monitor against the darkness was also bothering me. Also I got sick of being the "antisocial". :)

I posted to slashdot as part of one of their threads on office space.
